I live in the South of USA where South traditions are preserved and observed with great care. Today is known as Fat Tuesday, and I have always known this day as the biggest celebration of Mardi Gras season in New Orleans with food, drinks, and carnival parties (same are organized in Galveston and other cities in Texas and Louisiana). In United States this holiday is celebrated with beads, Fleur-de-Lis symbols, masks, and purple, gold and green colors. This is what I thought Mardi Gras was all about.
