A round up of SEED workshop in Macae (Brazil)

The volunteers were briefed as to the different aspects of the workshop.

Then came Monday, 28th May 2012, and the workshop started.

In his book, How to Think Like Leonardo Da Vinci, author Michael Gelb lists principles for thinking “a la Leonardo”:

Macae workshop, Brazil, part 1

Bonne dia!

It was a great opportunity for me to be a part of the SEED team in Macae and to participate in the unique collaborative workshop in Brazil.

Special thanks to Zenobio, SEED Coordinator in Brazil for the warm welcome, for organizing everything, and for being so hospitable.

A new type of workshop in Macae, Brazil (Day 3)

Hello friends,

I'm writing to you one last time from the collaborative workshop in beautiful Macae, Brazil. The experience has opened my eyes once again to the unrelenting dedication of the SEED coordinators, volunteers, educators, and staff, whithout whom these special events could not be possible, or nearly as impactful as they are; and to the unmatched spirit and energy of the teachers, students, administrative staff, and their families at our SEED schools, who have taught me not only new principles about science and technology, but about the desire to learn in today's classroom.

A new type of workshop in Macae, Brazil (Day 2)

Good evening again, everybody!

It is day 2 of the workshop and we have moved into the topic of water.  We had a visit this morning from the Brazil GeoMarket Manager Jose Firmo and members of his management team, followed by a tour of the water treatment facility at the base. Everyone is now so focused and excited about their projects that it took three announcements for the afternoon break before they decided to stop working!

Enjoy these pictures,

Simone

A new type of workshop in Macae, Brazil (Day 1)

Dear friends,

What a beautiful base we have in Macae where we are holding a collaborative workshop this week. We worked over the weekend to train facilitators and get set up.  We are in a spacious room and we have the luxury of a shaded terrace where we can enjoy our meals. We have an amazing and dedicated team here that is making everything possible, down to the most minute of details. We also have an interpreter Niels who is facilitating a good communication between all of us.

I have to admit that I am learning Portuguese fast , thank goodness for my French and for the kindness and patience of brazilians!

We started with introductions by Brazil Personnel Manager Ignacio Armento Conde, SEED Coordinator Zenobio Matos, the SEED educators, and SEED Coordinator for Russia Nadezhda Alekseeva, who is visiting Brazil to learn from this pilot workshop so she can replicate it in Russia.  Then it was my turn. I mentioned the team who could not be here, but who cares and works so hard to make these workshops happen.

Hi, everyone,

I am Tom Lough, SEED educational consultant. I am opening this blog as a journal for theSEED workshops in Macae, May 26-27 and May 28-31. Today, May 18, I am working on some of the tools we will be using in the workshops. These include the GoGo Board, the Scratch software, and the SEED water testing kit.
