Language was not as much of a barrier as I expected

Versão para impressãoVersão para impressão

When I was booking my trip to Mexico City in 2008, I was really worried about how I could contribute during the SEED workshop when I spoke no Spanish and I knew the teachers and student would speak little English.  But the first day, I realized that laughter and sign language made the language barrier non existent.  I helped students and teachers gather materials, work on building models, and setting evertything up for the final presentaion on the final day.  The week flew by and I enjoyed meeting and working with so many wonderful students and teachers.  It was an amazing experience and one that I will treasure for all my life.

It tells a lot!

It tells a lot about Science being a universal language I imagine if you were to help the students to build robots the language as well will not be a major issue. As long as you provide the good tools, approaches the group goes toward the same intention and direction.

Thank you for sharing your experience it makes me feel more comfortable to know any volunteer can help facilitate a workshop even if the person is not in his own country.

Cheers,

Corinne

You did a great job!

Carol, the workshop in Mexico was great, and you were an important member of the SEED team. It was great to have the opportunity to work together with several SEED members, and experience what we all had to contribute. :)

SEED workshops prove to erase language barriers

If you have a positive attitude and a high respect for the local culture, a language barrier is no longer there.  SEED workshops always have a welcoming atmosphere.  Everybody is understanding and kind towards each other.  It's an occasion to disover wodnerful things about each other.  Language gets lost in the midst of creativity.

Carol, your laughs are so

Carol, your laughs are so joyful, that I think many people would warm up to you immediately.

It is true, language is a great tool, which helps us understand each other, but it is just that, a tool. Most of human communication is non-verbal.
