Dream Car

Versão para impressãoVersão para impressão

If I could design my own dream car, it would make it where I could program my GPS and then the car would drive itself to that location.  The car would have sensors on it in 360 that would know when you are getting to close to other cars and could brake and even change lanes.  This car would also help me get an extra 2 hours of sleep a day since that's how long I spend commuting to and from work everyday.

Lol @Imarchenko!
Interesting how this Technology exists already or is close
to it.
It reminds me of a cartoon show I loved when I
was young called The Jetsons. It was Hanna-Barbera’s
Space Age counterpart to The Flintstones, a half-hour family
sitcom projecting contemporary culture and lifestyle into another
time period. Back in the 80's this type of living
seemed far fetched but incredible how much our
world has advanced. I can only imagine what another
20 years will bring us.

I agree with Carol - I think we're closer than you think. In San Diego they have been testing "tracks" that are built into the freeway.  These tracks are meant to guide vehicles within the lane, without the need for an attentive driver.  I don't know much more about it because it's been several years since I first read about it.  For instance, I'm not sure if it's meant to be a full auto-pilot, or if it's meant to be a backup for a driver that perhaps veers accidentally outside of his lane. Either way, the technology is progressing.

Love

I am ok with the car that I have, which I drive. I enjoy my drive (when there is no traffic).

I think I will opt to living closer to my work rather than having a car that drives itself...

Actually, Richard, that technology kind of exists, its called public transportation, you don't have to worry about driving at all... but it will not save you sleep time.

Sign me up! I need the extra sleep too! Naps help improve health and job performence!  Here is an infographic about it! Napping It would also help reduce stress and make me happier!

I think your dream car is not that far in the future.  My current SUV is equiped with sensors that warn me with a flashing BREAK light on the dash board when it has calculated that I am travelling too fast on my approach to the car in front of me.  If I do not break, it will then tighten and loosen my seat belt (I guess to wake me if I had fallen asleep) and then if I still do not break, the vehicle will apply the breaks by itself to avoid a collusion.  And I know other vehicles can now parallel park themselves...only a matter of time before there is a fully automated vehicle.  I too look forward to that day as I would enjoy the extra time to nap or catch up on other tasks.
