Permafrost solves a mystery!

From 1918 to 1919, a deadly influenza pandemic spread throughout the world, taking as many as 50 million lives. For years people wondered what made this flu virus so deadly. Permafrost provided the answer. Researchers were able to sequence the genome of this flu virus using tissue samples from victims that were buried in the permafrost of Alaska. Learn why this knowledge can help prevent other flu pandemics in the SEED Science Center report "Influenza."
