A School in Argentina uses low-cost SmartWired Tools to make a Big Impact

October 2008 [Argentina]

In July 2008, I was appointed SEED coordinator for Argentina and Chile by our Geomarket Manager, Carlos Aviles and Personnel Manager, Paola Mastrolorenzo.  So far it has been a challenge to conduct SEED activities due to budget limitations.  It has been my goal to find low-cost activities that can bring high impact to our schools.

As of today we have three connected schools in Argentina – two are located in Caleta Olivia and one in Neuquén.  We decided to have a pilot program for SEED’s SmartWired activity.

I chose School 76 located in Caleta Olivia, which has Internet connection and 12 working computers. As we cannot afford to purchase and ship the packaged SmartWired materials, I asked the SEED team for a digital version so that we could print them locally. With the collaboration of my IT Team and some coworkers from the Buenos Aires office, we printed, cut and organized 300 decks and 150 booklets.

On October 10, I travelled to Caleta to meet a group of teachers and the Vice Director of the school to introduce them to the world of SEED and to present the SmartWired workshop. I gave gifts to all of them (Schlumberger pens) and two Schlumberger vases for the school.  I also donated a decommissioned laptop (Dell C600) to the Vice director and promised the rest of the group to do the same with those who will participate in some SEED activities.

All of the teachers were very excited about the SmartWired workshop and the way it helped children discover and track their unique individual learning strengths and talents enabling them to excel in all areas of their life. Each of them considered applying this knowledge in their own classes and even within their personal lives.

On that day, nine teachers and the Vice director shared two hours of an extracurricular activity, where I presented the workshop and also listened to their personal experiences with their own students. They gave me their e-mail addresses, and the ones who didn’t have one yet, were encouraged to create one to keep in touch. Some of them even gave me their cell phone numbers to be sure we would communicate.

I am looking forward to seeing them again in the near future, and hearing about their SmartWired adventures with their students.

The SmartWired SEEDKIT is available in seven languages, including Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. For more information, visit the SEEDKIT Web page.

SmartWired activity sets are also available to order from SWPS (Schlumberger people only) and the SEEDSTORE.
