Schlumberger Russia Inaugurates a New SEED Multimedia Lab in Surgut

On January 29, 2008, the inauguration of a new SEED Multimedia Lab took place at School No. 5 in Surgut. The new lab offers free high-speed access to the Internet and to virtual labs in physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology. The Schlumberger grant provided the school with new computers with licensed educational software and other equipment, such as a multimedia projector, a printer and a scanner.
The official ceremony opened with a greeting by Vladimir Angelov, Schlumberger location manager, accompanied by SEED volunteers from Tyumen, Nefteyugansk, Surgut and Khanty-Mansiysk. "It’s an honor for us to help the community where Schlumberger people work and we are happy that School No. 5 is joining the big SEED family".
The event continued with a school performance and songs prepared by School No. 5 students followed by a warm welcome from Principal Olga Ivanova. Svetlana Belova, SEED Russia Coordinator, presented an overview of the SEED program and a SEED Certificate to the school.
Also in attendance at the event were the head of the Educational Department of the city of Surgut and other invited guests, including the representatives of Schlumberger customer SNG (SurgutNefteGaz).

The SEED project in Surgut was brilliantly implemented thanks to the help and enthusiasm of Schlumberger employees, managers and SEED Volunteers. In Russia 15 SEED-connected schools in the Western Siberia, Moscow and Sakhalin Island were equipped with necessary hardware, provided access to the Internet and innovative educational programs. All this helps to connect the Schlumberger experts, engineers to youth and youth to one another, worldwide.

SEED Russia reflects an ideal synergy with key projects advanced by the Russian Government and Ministry of Education and demonstrates successful results. SEED-connected schools are engaged in various activities: students and teachers participate in collaborative workshops and youth science exhibitions, initiate collaborative projects with students and teachers from other countries and present them at local and international events organized by SEED Team and Schlumberger Volunteers.
