2007 Facilitator Workshop: Climate Change and Energy SEPT 22-23
Enviado por admin el 13/01/2010 - 06:41.
The facilitator workshop on September 22-23 focused on helping teacher leaders from the participating SEED schools and SLB volunteers prepare to facilitate the collaborative workshop that was to follow. Following a safety briefing, participants shared information about the many different activities they have completed since the last workshop. They then reviewed the details of the workshop organization and the goals of both workshops. They discussed project-based learning, collaborative learning, and the learning while doing (LWD) methodology. They were introduced to the theme of global climate change and energy, and were given hands-on familiarization with the GoGo board and the MicroWorlds software. In addition, they were trained in brainstorming and had an opportunity to practice this idea-generating technique.
The final half day of the facilitator workshop was devoted to detailed planning of the agenda and the preparation of the various presentations. Each teacher leader volunteered to be responsible for one of the major components of the collaborative workshop startup, including introduction of the theme, familiarization with LogoMir and the GoGo board, icebreaking activities, organization of materials and equipment, and general administration as master of ceremonies. Thus, nearly the entire workshop would be conducted in Russian. We discussed the groupings of teachers and students, and reviewed the roles of the teacher leaders within their assigned groups. Volunteers accepted assignments for special projects for the collaborative workshop, such as delivering a detailed QHSE briefing, setting up and monitoring the materials room and the soldering and cutting areas, generating the workshop newsletter, creating the photographic directory, and collecting the answers to questions for a future news article.
