On Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27, a facilitator workshop was conducted for a few volunteers and SSA members and one teacher from Macae. On Saturday morning, after a QHSE orientation, the volunteer schedule was organized and the basic concepts and some activities of SmartWired were presented. One of the SLB managers volunteered to host a meeting of students on Wednesday afternoon to reinforce the SmartWired concepts. During the afternoon, software was installed on the computers and systems thinking concepts were reviewed. A graphic was developed to illustrate the integration of SmartWired, systems thinking, and technology tools to solve complex problems.
On Sunday, posters were developed for safety, technology, SmartWired, systems thinking, and related topics. A problem with the GoGo Board software was discovered. After consulting with GoGo Board technical support, we uninstalled the earlier software and installed an updated version which worked in all respects. In the afternoon, hands-on orientations on the GoGo Board and Scratch software and their Portuguese resources were presented to volunteer assistants. A teacher from Macae was introduced to the water test kit. Plans were made to collect pre-workshop surveys from all teachers and students. Specific time targets were identified for Monday during a detailed walk-through of the agenda, and final adjustments were made. Group assignments for participating teachers and students were finalized.
