MATH IS BEAUTIFUL

2013-2014 Artwork Competition Results!

إخفاء

Since 1998, students at SEED schools have been invited to express their artistic and creative talents in themes of science, nature, and diversity. Every year we receive amazing works of art that tell us how SEED students see the world.

This year's theme was "The Earth: Above and Below".  There is more to our planet than what we see on its surface. What beauty, what creatures, and what mysteries can be found in the depths of our oceans or the crevices beneath our feet? How does subsurface Earth compare with what you see above ground?

How would you interpret this year's theme?

Not everyone had the chance to participate in this year's artwork program.  Now's your chance to show the SEED community what "The Earth: Above and Below" means to you - with a picture, drawing, painting, or something else.

How does this year's artwork inspire you?

Tell us how you are inspired by the artwork in this year's competition? Did you explore the Earth's subsurface in your own backyard? Did you read a book about geology?  Share your story with us.

Art for art's sake - what you see is what you get

Over the course of my career, I have had a few people suggest that I go into teaching art, since that is my training and passion. Now, I am fairly confident I would make a very average teacher at best - I tend to think too much about what you "should" be telling kids. As luck would have it, I have nonetheless been called into service to help someone near and dear to me: my younger son.
