The Invisible G....

This morning, in my management course we were learning about Attention and Perception, and other aspects of communication.
An interesting point that was made in class is that as humans we tend to have selective hearing/seeing. We tune out everything around us, that we consider non important, and focus only on things that matter to us.
This theory was re-enforced by showing us the video below.
Watch the video, and focus only on people wearing WHITE. Count the number of times people in WHITE shirts pass the ball to other people in WHITE shirts.
Did you find it surprising??
----
•Selective perception
–notice and accept objects which are consistent with our values and beliefs
–ignore inconsistent information
•Closure
–tendency to fill in the gaps when information is missing
–we assume that what we don’t know is consistent with what we do know

Hilarious. I got the number right, and I saw the gorilla. What does it mean?
Love,
The idea is that if you are so concentrated on what you are doing or looking at, you might not notice other things, even if they are out of place.
When the professor showed the video in class, about half of us (including me) did NOT see the gorilla. I was so shocked when she rewinded it, that I thought it was a practical joke. It was not. My brain was focused on white, and it was disregarding anything that was in black (including the gorilla).
The point is, everyone sees differently, and we only collect information important to us, thats why 2 eye witnesses may describe the same incident completely different from each other. This study was very important for Criminal Justice Department.
Whoa!!! So, I'm wondering what "g's" are in our SEED rooms???
Tom, did you have to rewind back to see the gorilla?
